The golden brick road under the sea thousands of meters deep?
According to Ancient Origins, the yellow brick road was discovered by accident when the Nautilus expedition ship was on a mission to explore the geology and creatures of the deep sea near Hawaii.
Located at a depth of about 1,000 meters, the yellow brick road winds atop a deep-sea mountain in the Papahānaumokuākea Maritime National Heritage area, in the Liliʻuokalani Sea. Liliʻuokalani was the name of the last king to rule the independent Kingdom of Hawaii.

The road seems very old and damaged but still clearly shows the structure like neatly arranged yellow bricks, no different from the sidewalks or paths of modern times. But the position it occupies is absolutely shocking. The team of scientists from the Ocean Exploration Trust, who are on a mission with the Nautilus rover, even call it “the path to Atlantis”.
Video from the expedition ship also reveals an enchanting world around the yellow brick road, filled with peculiar deep-sea creatures.
However, scientists insist the structure is not man-made. “At the Nootka Seamount, we discovered a ‘dry lake bed’ formation, now identified as a fault line of hyaloclastite, a volcanic rock that forms from high-energy eruptions, causing many pieces of rock deposited on the sea floor,” – Live Science quoted the research team.
The brick-like division between the rocks may have been a random result of heating and cooling from various eruptions over millions of years.
Geological samples collected from the “yellow brick road” and the surrounding area will help scientists understand more about how underwater volcanoes work and create this interesting seabed. The rover will also collect microbial samples and learn about other bizarre forms of life that inhabit the area up to 3,000 meters deep.
