Starting from May 9, many ATMs in Hanoi have been equipped with a new feature of quick deposit and withdrawal with a chip-based CCCD card without having to use a bank’s ATM card.

The operation is very simple, just choose a transaction without a card, select CCCD with a chip, then look directly at the camera to recognize your face, then, all transactions sent or received. withdraw money It happens as usual with a bank ATM card.

How to withdraw money with CCCD chip at ATMs

Step 1: People put the CCCD card with the chip in the card reader of the ATM by turning the back side (where the chip is inserted) and put the chip in the card reader of the ATM.

At the same time, face towards the camera of the ATM to automatically recognize the face.

Step 2: The system will automatically check and compare the information on the CCCD with the chip and the information stored in the banking system without people needing to enter a password.

Step 3: Instead of using a password as the only method of confirming information like today, with the use of a chip-based CCCD, the ATM will scan the customer’s biometrics and the interface screen will display the authentications such as: face authentication, fingerprint… for identification.

Step 4: After confirming that it is the correct cardholder, the ATM will “release” money, people will be able to withdraw money.

Is it time to say goodbye to ATM cards?

Currently, there are more than 90 million ATM cards in circulation in Vietnam. Each year, there are about 5 million new cards with the issuance cost of about VND 250 billion. This number can be significantly reduced when the need to open a card decreases because there is a citizen ID with a chip.

Authentication when withdrawing using biometric technology instead of just entering a pin code helps customers’ accounts be better protected. Some customers said that withdrawing money at ATMs is even more convenient than taking CCCD to the bank.

However, it is a bit premature to say that chip IDs can replace bank cards. Currently, only a few banks allow pilot withdrawals at ATMs.

In addition, while a bank card can withdraw money at any ATM, ID is only accepted at the machine of the bank where you have an account and citizen identification cannot be used to pay at the ATMs. POS in stores or supermarkets.
