Ambitious flying taxi in the UK

“We want to help people envision what the future is like” – news agency Bloomberg quoted Ricky Sandhu, founder of Urban-Air Port, a London-based startup that is working to bring flying taxis to market “within a few years”.

Located in a car park at a busy intersection near Coventry’s main train station, the center is fully equipped, except for flying taxis – still pending approval to operate.

Around the center are electric charging points for motorbikes and electric cars, with the aim of connecting passengers’ travel routes smoothly and further, helping to reduce carbon emissions in inter-city travel.

Mr. Sandhu estimates the cost of building a complete flying taxi hub at around £5 million (US$6.1 million). The model on display is in the form of a donut, in the middle is a helipad and surrounded by a check-in lobby, departure lounge, and a cafe.

The entire length of the downtown area is only 46 m, partly to accommodate the crowded city center, partly because from the moment passengers arrive at the center until boarding a flying taxi, it takes about 20 minutes – ie just 20 minutes. a minimal waiting area and without the need for the crowded stores that are found in most airports.

Passengers walk a few meters to the air taxi and when they are seated, the landing pad will be raised until it is level with the center top, then the taxi will take off straight into the sky. Most types of flying taxis that apply for a license today can fly short distances, but there are also types that can fly more than 150 km.

Within the next five years, Urban-Air Port has ambitions to build 200 flying taxi hubs and is introducing five different designs, including passenger hubs (as in Coventry), floating versions, tailored hubs. with disaster relief, freight center and connection center with warehouse and logistics system.
