Students need to face and adapt to change by planning and orienting their future career. When choosing a school, they must look to the labor market in the next 5-7 years.

Assoc. Dr. Tran Thanh Nam introduced Five principles of choosing a career: You should only choose a career that matches your interests; Do not choose a profession that does not meet the conditions; Only choose when fully understanding about the profession (conditions, environment, nature, difficulties, challenges…); Do not choose a profession that society no longer needs; Choose a career that meets the values ​​that you consider important.

When applying these principles, students need to rely on objective data or empirical scientific models, rather than on feelings. In addition, to make the right choice, you should also know how the labor market is in need of qualified human resources.

“The market only needs about 15.4% of people with a university degree or higher, but in fact, candidates with this qualification are very large – 66.9%, leading to many bachelors not finding suitable jobs,” he said. Male analysis.

Vietnam currently has about 240 universities, with 1.7 million students. Statistics for three years, from 2019 to 2020, show that the country has an average of 240,000 university graduates every year. In 2020, 10 major training fields and disciplines with 10,000 or more graduates, including Business, Management, Health, Science, Education, Teacher Training, Technology, Engineering, Humanities, Law. The number of graduates from these 10 disciplines is 204,562, accounting for 83.7% of the number of graduates.

The five fields with the least graduates are Mathematics and Statistics (593), Veterinary Medicine (715), Transportation Services (1,338), Social Services (1,600), Arts (1,800).

Dr. Tran Dinh Ly – Vice President of Nong Lam University in Ho Chi Minh City, said that when advising students, teachers need to prioritize, answer three questions of the career circle: Which profession are you suitable for; What major to study to do that job; Choose which school to study.
