French Prime Minister resigns

Mr. Macron accepted Castex’s resignation after the two spoke at the Elysée Palace on the afternoon of May 16.

After being re-elected to a second French presidency in April, Mr Macron said the new government should be “more centralized”, with fewer ministers.

President Macron said he is looking for a person with green and social policy capabilities to be the prime minister of France.

Meanwhile, Mr. Macron’s allies say he will most likely appoint a woman as prime minister of France. Incumbent Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne, 61, is currently a bright candidate for the post.

Before the results of the French presidential election in April, Mr. Castex said he would submit his resignation and the entire French government regardless of the outcome of this election.

According to Mr. Castex, this is a political tradition that should be respected and this will help the French president create a new team with greater motivation for a new term.
