Ca MauMr. Le Trung Dam, vice principal of Phan Ngoc Hien High School for the Gifted, was disciplined for forcing two students to eat food that they left in the trash.
Mr. Dam was disciplined by the Disciplinary Council of the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau province in the form of a warning, on May 16.
According to verification by the provincial Department of Education and Training, on the morning of April 18, Mr. Dam and a representative of the youth union and the school superintendent went to check the student’s behavior. During this process, Mr. Dam discovered that six students (four girls, two boys) of grade 12 brought gifts and cakes into the classroom to eat. The school rules that students are not allowed to eat in class, so Mr. Dam asked them to eat at the stone benches in the school yard.
When they left the classroom, two male students put their food (contained in a plastic bag) in the trash. Mr. Dam went to check around and then came back, saw that the two male students had no food in their hands, so he asked to go rummage, take back the food and he stood nearby to “supervise”.
Mr. Le Hoang Du, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education, determined that Mr. Dam knew that the students had put food in the trash but still asked to take it out to eat, which was an anti-educational act.
After the incident, Mr. Dam apologized to students and parents.
