EU has not yet agreed on a ban on Russian oil imports
Speaking after the meeting, the European Union’s high representative in charge of foreign and security policy Josep Borrell said that after more than 10 days of discussions, EU member states could not agree on what proposed embargo on Russian oil imports, with Hungary leading the group of countries opposed to this measure.
The proposed Russian oil embargo is part of the sixth European sanctions package introduced in early May related to the conflict in Ukraine. This ban is considered to be the harshest sanctions against Russia.
However, at this meeting, EU foreign ministers decided to provide an additional 500 million euros to buy weapons in favor of Ukraine, bringing the total amount that the EU has spent for that purpose to 2 billion euros.
