Identify the deadly ‘death’ bee in 10 minutes

Characteristic burn

GS. Bui Cong Hien – Vietnam Entomological Association said, bee When honey bees are almost non-toxic, wasps and groundhogs (wasps), gourds contain toxins that can be deadly. Toxins present in bee venom include Melittin, Phospholipase A, B, Hyaluronidase, Histamine, Serotonine, Acetylcholine, Acide phosphatase, Apamin… respiratory failure…

“For one thing, all bees are very ‘gentle’ in non-breeding seasons. But during the bee breeding season, which is around mid-summer, bees are more aggressive to protect their habitat. , easy to attack when the area where they live is violated. Tragic accidents due to bee attacks mostly take place at this time”, Prof. Hien said.

Being stung by a wasp can cause death after more than 10 minutes.

GS. Bui Cong Hien said that the wasp is dangerous because when it stings a person, it can pull out its stinger and sting many times, so it is much more dangerous than the honey bee (Apidae). Wasp stings are very specific with a red halo around a central necrotic spot.

Wasps have a slender body and abdomen, with alternating black and yellow cavities. The head is as wide as the thorax, not smooth, with many small pitted spots, the hair is stiff, short and sparse. Wasps usually nest in the open air, on the branches of trees or bushes, sometimes nest in the roof.

Also according to GS. Bui Cong Hien, the way to avoid being attacked by bees and not let them attack you is fire and smoke. When going to the forest or gardening, you should prepare materials to be ready to cope. The second rule is to cover sensitive areas such as the head and neck area. Find a way to use your hands to dig up the sand and wave to scare them away. Absolutely do not use branches or clothes to repel because the more you repel, the more bees will attack again.

GS. Bui Cong Hien said that bee venom contains many extremely toxic substances such as melittin, apamine, phospholipase A2, phospholipases B, mast cell disruptors, hyaluronidase, histamine, dopamine,… In which, the main ingredients are melittin and phospholipase A2. Melittin is a substance that makes people feel pain, more dangerous, this is a factor that causes hemolysis and blood clotting disorders. Apamine is a component that has the ability to paralyze nervous system and muscle activity, even causing respiratory muscle paralysis, nerve paralysis and death.

Most bees are venomous, depending on the species, the toxicity is more or less. In addition to extremely poisonous species such as wasps and wasps, there are bees that are less toxic, but can still cause anaphylactic shock to people who are stung by bees, leading to death depending on the location of each person.

Treatment of venom when stung by bees

Also according to Prof. Bui Cong Hien, if the sting is mild, you can use alkaline substances (such as slaked lime, toothpaste…) to apply to the sting to neutralize. If severe, must be taken to a medical facility for treatment. People who have been stung by a bee when giving first aid should pay attention to drink enough water, call an ambulance and take them to the nearest medical facility. Do not self-medicate, whether it is traditional medicine or modern medicine.

After escaping the attack of the man, check the skin that was stung by the bee to see if there is still a bee sting, if so, pull the stinger out immediately. Use tubers and leaves to rub in place.

If stung by a yellow bee (bumblebee), apply black sugar or sour vinegar immediately to the wound. Use wet tea grounds, no matter how much or little, and rub them on the spot to help relieve pain. You can also take purslane or crushed chives and apply on the spot, or fresh sliced ginger to rub the wound.

For poisonous bees, crush amaranth and rub it on the sting.

“To prevent bee attacks, absolutely avoid contact with bees if not necessary. Do not poke the hive. If the situation is too urgent, you can use herbs to rub on the sting. Active ingredients. present in the plant when it encounters bee venom (which is essentially a protein) will form precipitates, thereby helping to detoxify the venom,” Prof. Bui Cong Hien said.

Previously, Xuyen A General Hospital (Tay Ninh) in recent days continuously treated critical cases due to wasp stings. The first case is the family of a female patient with TTB. When going to the garden to pick jackfruit, the patient was attacked by wasps. In panic, he ran into the house, accidentally causing 3 other people in the house to be stung by bees and had to be hospitalized.

Accordingly, when receiving at the hospital, patient B’s condition was very critical, his whole body had a lot of necrosis marks due to bee stings, the patient was in shock, heart failure, liver failure, severe kidney failure, hematuria. The patient was actively treated and indicated for urgent dialysis at the Intensive Care Unit.

Another serious case was a male patient with NNH, when clearing the wood warehouse, suddenly was attacked by wasps, burning all over the head, face, neck, nape, back with more than 100 stings. On admission, the patient was lethargic, had difficulty breathing, the location of the stings was swollen, and the pain was severe. The patient’s condition was very critical, so he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for dialysis, anti-infective treatment, and intravenous fluids to remove toxins from the body.
