Bringing this lonely post office back to life is somewhat of an adventure. First, Ms. Zhang and Ms. Luo Meng, had to convince a few others to help them rebuild it.
At first, they planned to build a house out of wood and transport it into the desert, but that was too difficult to do, so they decided to transport the building materials there and build on the spot, taking 20 days to complete.
After construction, they applied to China Post and after reviewing the wooden hut became one of more than 700 post offices in the country.
Every day, letters and postcards written here, embellished with the post office’s distinctive desert-themed stamp, are transported 10 kilometers to the nearest road, from where they are picked up by trucks and then sent to all over the world.
