According to Reuters news agency, the air force America said the test was conducted on May 14, off the coast of Southern California. A B-52 bomber performed an “air rapid reaction weapon (ARRW)” launch during the test.

“After detaching from the aircraft, the ARRW’s propulsion stage was activated and fueled for the intended duration, achieving speeds of up to five times the speed of sound,” the Air Force said in a statement.

According to the magazine Air Forcethe 419th Test Flight Squadron (FLTS) and the Joint Global Bomber Test Force (GPB CTF) were responsible for conducting the test.

In the latest statement, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Jungquist, commander of FLTS 419 and director of GPB CTF, said: “Our professional team has made history with this first air-launched hypersonic weapon. . We’re doing everything we can to get this game-changing weapon into the hands of our soldiers as soon as possible.”

Before this successful test, the US had 3 failed ARRW test launches in 2021. The US Air Force then had to withdraw its budget estimate in 2022-2023 for the ARRW development program.

The United States is not the only country developing hypersonic weapons with remarkable speed and maneuverability, making them difficult to track and intercept.

US military officials say China has tested the weapon before. But in October last year, China’s Foreign Ministry denied Washington’s information.
