On May 13, for the first time, a miracle happened with the Vietnamese women’s basketball team at Thanh Tri Gymnasium. This can be considered a milestone marking the history of Vietnamese women’s basketball. It was our women’s basketball team that beat the Philippines – a country that is considered to have no rival in the region.

And not up to this expectation, on May 14, the girls of the basketball team won a silver medal in the 3×3 content. This is the first time in history that the Vietnamese women’s basketball team has won at the regional playground.

Making the strength of the Vietnamese women’s team certainly cannot help but mention the twin sisters of the Truong family: Thao My and Thao Vy. The main pitches, the excellent defense of the Vietnamese-American pair of sisters helped Vietnam maintain its positions against the opponent.

To Vietnamese audiences, the names Truong Thao My and Truong Thao Vy are probably still quite unfamiliar. However, the reputation of both has been confirmed in the school basketball environment in the US.

Thao My and Thao Vy once made a certain amount of noise in the American basketball community. The pair of Viet Kieu sisters are Vietnamese, the mother has two Vietnamese-American bloodlines and was born and raised in the state of Texas (USA), where 3 famous basketball teams gather. Therefore, it is not surprising that from an early age, the Truong sisters had a love for orange balls.

It is known that Thao My and Thao Vy (commonly known as Truong Twins) were born and raised in Houston, Texas (USA), with a Vietnamese father and Vietnamese-American mother. Since the age of 5, the two sisters have been taught to play ball by their father – a former basketball player with the aim of keeping their children happy and healthy.

Truong Twins’ passion for orange balls kept growing and became a strong passion. By the time they were in high school, the two sisters quickly made an impression and had outstanding performance when they joined the high school football team. In 2018, the Truong sisters were also invited to the training camp of the school. USA U17 basketball team to challenge for the main squad to attend the FIBA ​​Women’s U17 World Cup.

A year after being rejected for the national U17 team, Thao My and Thao Vy received a scholarship to Gonzaga University, one of the strongest schools in the NCAA arena. This is also the place where the world’s top basketball players are born. Currently, Thao My and Thao Vy are playing as defenders of the school basketball team in NCAA Women Division 1 (the highest level of college/college basketball in the US).

Before reaching the dream of conquering the world’s highest basketball title, Thao My and Thao Vy decided to return to their homeland with the goal of winning a historic medal for Vietnamese basketball at the 31st SEA Games.

During this time back home to compete, the Truong sisters did not go alone, but were accompanied by their parents to cheer them on. More specifically, this is also the first time Truong Twins’ parents have returned to Vietnam. “This is the first time we have come to Vietnam and had great experiences. Being exposed to the Vietnamese community and experiencing the culture of the mother country are really memories that I will remember forever” – Ms. Thao – Truong Twins’ mother confided.
