It is known that the problem stems from the cumulative KB5013943 for Windows 11 (build 22000.675) and KB5013942 for Windows 10 (build 19043.1706, 19042.1706 and 19041.1706). Installing the cumulative update may cause client and server OS authentication failures in a number of services, including Network Policy Server, Routing and Remote Access Service, Extensible Authentication Protocol, and Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol.

The source added, the problem is related to how the domain controller handles the certificates that map to the user’s computer account. Due to its nature, the issue does not affect client and server operating system versions that are not controlled by the domain.

While Microsoft confirmed that it is working on a patch to fix the mentioned bugs, it is not known exactly when it will be rolled out to users. For those experiencing issues after installing this cumulative update, it is recommended to associate the certificate with the account in Active Directory.

It is known that the RTM version of Windows 11 22H2 (Sun Valley 2) will be released on May 24. Hopefully Microsoft will implement a fix for the issue in this update.
