Mr. Tran Dinh Nham and his son have just imported Thai peaches for 10 million VND/pair.

Born and raised in the highlands, since childhood, Mr. Tran Dinh Nham (born in 1993, residing in village 4, Son Hong commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province) was familiar with the mountains, forests, and bamboo. Daily work revolves around going to the forest to cut firewood, find bees for honey and go down to the stream to catch fish at the headwaters of a tributary of the River Ngan Pho.

With the hope of changing their lives, in 2016, Nham and his wife decided to work together at an electronics company in Bac Ninh. Here, Nham works as a security guard, with an average income of 8-9 million VND/month, and his wife works as a worker in the company.

During a company tour in Thai Nguyen, Nham happened to come across a model of dog farming. It was introduced that the bat is easy to raise, has few diseases, the main food is bamboo, which is easy to find, the time to take care of it is not much, especially it does not need to invest a lot of capital, but it still brings a source of income. stable, so he was immediately hooked.

The type of Thai peach cheek when mature can reach a weight of about 5kg.

Suddenly, he remembers that in his hometown, he sometimes encounters pine forests, which means favorable natural conditions. Moreover, his hometown is mountainous, with a lot of bamboo, but no one has raised it, since then Nham cherished the determination to set up a career in animal husbandry in his hometown.

Since then, whenever there is a day off, Nham will drive to the ranch to review, admire, and learn the techniques of raising this rodent, in order to equip him with basic knowledge before embarking on work. .

After a period of study, in early 2017, Tran Dinh Nham decided to resign from the company, and returned with his wife to his hometown to start a business. Initially, he bought 4 pairs of breeding bats (2 pairs of adult and 2 pairs of juveniles) for testing. However, not long after, a couple died of diarrhea.

After finding out the cause, it is known that the food for the bats must always be fresh, must not be moldy or dry. In addition to the main food such as bamboo and sugarcane, they must also add corn, cassava, elephant grass… to help them improve their intestinal tract and avoid diarrhea.

Each year, the mother gives birth to about 3 litters, each litter is from 3 to 4 children

Since then, the remaining 3 pairs of bats have developed very quickly and reproduced regularly. Realizing that there is a positive signal, in 2018, Tran Dinh Nham borrowed another 100 million VND to invest in buying 20 more breeding pairs and building a barn to expand the model.

Recently, to improve the product’s value, Mr. Nham has just imported 2 pairs of Thai peach cheeks. This type of bat costs 4 million VND / kg, an adult bat can reach a weight of about 5 kg.

Up to now, Mr. Nham’s breeding model has a total of 270 cubs of all kinds, of which 100 are mother’s paws, 80 are father’s calves, the rest are rear paws and cubs.

Share with PV Infonet, Tran Dinh Nham said: “Raising mollusks is very simple, only feeding 2 times a day in the early morning and evening. With the current master group, it only takes me about an hour and a half in the morning, and about 2 hours in the evening, and the rest of the time I can still do other things.”

After giving birth about 45 days after giving birth, she separated from the mother, at this time, she has reached a weight of 300-400g

“An average adult pair of bats eats about 20cm of bamboo per day (a kind of bamboo cake, neither old nor young), 5cm of sugarcane. In addition, they feed additional agricultural products such as corn, potatoes, cassava, elephant grass… There is project bamboo here, and in the season, you have to cut it to produce bamboo shoots, so you can have as much as you want,” Nham added.

Also according to Mr. Nham, the barn for the cubs to live in is also very simple, just buy the faulty tiles and glue them back together, creating a small opening next to the bottom of the barn. The toilet is very clean, the waste is pushed out through that gap, so cleaning is also easy.

“The most difficult thing is the hot weather, so people are forced to eat only natural foods, so they often have problems with diarrhea and pneumonia. If not detected in time, the bat will die, and there is a risk of spreading to the whole herd,” Nham shared his experience.

Mosquitoes are gentle rodents.

Talking about the growth process of the pupa, Nham said: “After giving birth, about 45 days after giving birth, it separated from the mother, at this time it has reached a weight of 300-400g. After about the next 8 months, they will be paired for breeding, 45 days pregnant, then they will give birth. The average mother gives birth to 3 litters a year, with 3 to 4 children in each litter.

“The commercial products that are sold with a weight of over 1 kg are priced from 400,000 to 600,000 VND/kg, but my farm mainly sells seeds. The type of seed that has just separated from its mother (with a weight of 300-400 gr) costs 1 million VND/pair. Seeds with a weight of 1kg are sold for from 1.2 to 1.5 million VND. In case they are too old, or they bite each other or have errors in reproduction, they will sell meat,” Nham added.

According to Mr. Nham, on average, the farm sells about 400 pairs of seeds each year, earning about 400 million VND. Houses, means of transport and household items are all thanks to the animal husbandry. Only at the beginning of the year, Nham has sold over 100 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hoa, Chairman of Son Hong Commune People’s Committee, said that this is a spontaneous but very effective model, increasing the total number of herds every year and bringing a good source of income for the family.

According to Mr. Hoa, this model is very suitable for local conditions because of the abundant food source and available bamboo. In the near future, the locality will carry out procedures to ensure the legality and rationalization for farmers.
