Google’s best watch uses an old chip from 2018-Hi-tech fashion
Google originally planned to release its first smartwatch in 2018 alongside the Pixel 3, and that could be the reason for using the old chip on the product.
Google showed off a preview of the Pixel Watch at its recent I/O conference to confirm its circular design, tactile digital crown, customizable strap, and Fitbit integration. This is the smartwatch the company plans to launch in 2018.
The Pixel Watch is a watch oriented by Google to the high-end segment.
In its statement, Google did not reveal details related to the product, but a recent discovery suggests that the Pixel Watch will likely be equipped with a chip that was released 4 years ago. This is a rather surprising detail in the context Samsung and Google are jointly developing the Tensor chip to power the latest Pixel phones, which leads many to believe that the Pixel Watch will come with a modern chip from Samsung, the Exynos W920 like on the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic – two among the best smartwatches of 2022.
However, records from 9to5Google suggest that this is not the case, instead, the Pixel Watch will be powered by the Exynos 9110 chip that Samsung released in 2018. The Exynos 9110 debuted on the 2018 Galaxy Watch and also offers power for Watch Active, Watch Active2 2019 and Galaxy Watch3 2020.
While the Exynos W920 is based on a more advanced 5nm process and also has newer Cortex-A55 cores, which makes it faster and more economical than the 10nm Exynos 9110 with older Cortex-A53 cores. According to Samsung, the Exynos W920 offers 20% better CPU performance and 10% better graphics than the Exynos 9110.
Exynos 9110 has been launched by Samsung since 2018.
Users may be disappointed to learn that the Pixel Watch only uses the old chip, but with many software improvements from Google, the company can allow it to be optimized with the old chip. At the same time, the watch will run Wear OS and Google also promises a smoother experience. The thing is, Google values the Pixel Watch as a premium product, so the old chip is obviously quite a surprise.
