Japan tourism flourishes after two years of epidemic

Nara city gradually regained its bustle after more than a year of absence from visitors, people inside and outside the province have begun to look to tourist destinations temporarily forgotten during the COVID-19 epidemic season. Nara Prefecture has established a Center to support tourists with activities such as free guides at tourist sites, free Japanese cultural experiences such as origami paper folding, cosplay, trying on kimonos, and tea practices. This has attracted both Japanese and foreign tourists to live here.

The Australian tourist said: “I’ve lived in Osaka for two years and it’s been a long time since I traveled. Corona made it difficult for me to make friends during my time here. Today, I went to Nara because I was invited by my students and now they are my friends. I’m glad I have more Japanese friends.”

Along with the establishment and expansion of tourism support activities for foreigners, businesses and provinces also actively participate in tourism fairs and exhibitions, prepare documents and provide services in English. He creates product packages suitable to the tastes of foreigners living in Japan such as short tours and many experiential activities.

Mr. Akasaka Yuto – Odakyu Electric Railway Company shared: “The vaccination situation in Japan progressed as planned, so the number of tourists started to increase. We wanted to target foreigners living in Japan so we create multiple product packages for this audience”.

According to statistics of the Japanese Ministry of Transport, there are nearly 31.9 million foreign tourists to Japan in 2019, this number will be about 4 million in 2020 and only 250,000 in 2021. With a new orientation to focus on domestic customers, accompanying services such as restaurants, hotels, and souvenir shops are gradually regaining a bustling atmosphere, promising recovery in the near future.
