Le Nguyen Paul was born in 1992, to Vietnamese parents who settled in the US. From a young age, he showed a love for swimming. At the age of 8, Paul officially learned to swim professionally and quickly became a talented seed in the green race. His talent showed more clearly when he entered the University of Missouri (Columbia, Missouri, USA). In parallel with swimming practice, Le Nguyen Paul still achieved good results in study. He majored in economics and holds a master’s degree in the US.

It is known that the fate of bringing Paul back to Vietnam to play for the team was quite accidental. Accordingly, in 2014, when Paul attended a tournament in the US, he met the outstanding female swimmer of Vietnam, Anh Vien. Before admiring the outstanding talent and skills of the “little mermaid”, Le Nguyen Paul boldly expressed his desire to wear the home team shirt with coach Dang Anh Tuan. In 2015, the male swimmer officially became a Vietnamese citizen and started his career competing for the country’s sports.

He chose to play in the An Giang team, his mother’s hometown. Overseas Vietnamese fisherman impressed with the achievement of winning 10 gold medals for the An Giang delegation and breaking 5 national records. SEA Games 31 is the third time Le Nguyen Paul participates in the largest sports festival in Southeast Asia. Recently, he won gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay with his teammates. Previously, in the SEA Games arena in 2017 and 2019, Le Nguyen Paul won 1 silver medal and 5 bronze medals for Vietnamese swimming.

Not only possessing impressive achievements, the overseas Vietnamese swimmer also won the hearts of fans because of his handsome appearance and toned 6-pack body. Besides, he also possesses a cheerful, liberal, sociable personality, always leaving an impression with a bright, eye-catching smile. For that reason, the handsome boys association gave Le Nguyen Paul the nickname “the male god of swimming” of Vietnam, Every time he appeared, he received enthusiastic support and encouragement from the female fans.

Love story with American girlfriend

Returning to Vietnam to attend this SEA Games, accompanied by Paul was his American girlfriend Josie Pearson. From practice sessions to daily activities and competitions, the audience always saw Josie next to her boyfriend, the couple stuck together like a picture with a ball. Not only following the role of a “family member”, the male swimmer’s girlfriend also works as a personal trainer.

Because there is no opportunity to practice much and there is no full-time coach in Vietnam, Josie’s girlfriend is the one who helps Le Nguyen Paul connect with the coach in the US to track the progress of the competition in the most accurate way. It is known that Josie Pearson is also an athlete and used to be a coach for a youth swimming team in North Carolina. The couple knew each other more than 5 years ago, when both competed in the American college sports tournament system (NCCA).
