On May 17, at the Presidential Palace, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the Ambassador of Brunei Pengiran Haji Salleh to bid farewell to end his term of office in Vietnam.

Receiving the Ambassador of Brunei Pengiran Haji Salleh who came to say goodbye, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that during his eight years in Vietnam, the Ambassador had successfully completed the tasks assigned by King Bonkia, typically the visit of the National The King and Crown Prince came to Vietnam in 2019. During the visit, the two countries upgraded their relations to a comprehensive partnership.

To balance trade, the President suggested that Brunei increase imports of Vietnamese agricultural products, implement committed investment projects, and soon reopen direct flights between the two countries.

Through the Ambassador, the President conveyed the invitation to visit Vietnam to the King and Crown Prince of Brunei.

Ambassador Pengiran Haji Salleh highly appreciated Vietnam, despite the pandemic, successfully carried out the task of leading ASEAN in 2020 and transferred those excellent results to Brunei.

The Ambassador also thanked Vietnam for providing COVID-19 vaccines to Embassy staff and Bruneians in Vietnam. This action reflects the kindness and hospitality of the Vietnamese people.

The Ambassador also congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the opening ceremony of the 31st Sea Games and welcoming the delegations to attend very carefully, including the Brunei delegation. This action affirms that Vietnam is always a caring and reliable host country.

Thanking the Ambassador for those good reviews, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently assessed that Vietnam and Brunei have successfully cooperated in taking on the role of ASEAN Chair, the President suggested that the two countries continue to work together. close cooperation in ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC… The President also welcomed the results of the ASEAN-US Special Summit, and the countries agreed to support the upgrade to a Comprehensive and Balanced Strategic Partnership. major country relations.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the President suggested the two sides need to coordinate more closely, together with ASEAN to maintain solidarity and common voice, to ensure peace, security and stability in the East Sea; promote the implementation of the DOC and negotiate the effective and substantive COC in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Congratulating the upcoming Ambassador on receiving a new assignment, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc wished that, regardless of his position, the Ambassador would always promote Vietnam – Brunei relations.
