Touched by the valedictorian’s gift to the laborer’s mother
Nguyen Thi Xuyen wrote on her personal Facebook page right after receiving her bachelor’s degree and the title of valedictorian from the Institute of Technical Physics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology with a score of 3.68/4.0. Xuyen’s sharing line has touched many people.
This title, Xuyen said, is a gift she wants to give to her mother, a janitor who always makes her proud and admired.
The result of the labor mother’s efforts
“Mother had an unhappy marriage. After that, my mother worked hard alone to raise me. It can be said that the life around me is only my mother, and the person who affects me the most is also my mother. So, what I want to do is work harder so that my mother can have a more leisurely life.”Xuyen talked about what she most wanted to do after leaving the lecture hall of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Recalling her childhood, Xuyen said, she couldn’t have a friend just because she was considered “a child without a father”. Because of that, Xuyen used to feel pressured and self-deprecating about her starting point.
“In elementary school, I didn’t do well in school. I always keep my distance from people and withdraw. Until 9th grade, I met a teacher. He mentored and encouraged me a lot.”
The “need to study harder” thinking started to become clearer in Xuyen since she was in high school. That was when Xuyen’s mother took a job as a street sweeper in Hanoi.
“My mother worked as a janitor, so she was not respected. When I was about to go to college, my mother no longer cleaned the streets, but switched to working as a janitor in the company. Despite interacting with many educated people, everyone’s view of her mother has not changed. At that time, I was determined to work harder to take care of my mother.”

Therefore, Xuyen set a goal of passing the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Science and Technology. It’s also been my dream since high school.
“I chose to enter the Institute of Engineering Physics because I was impressed with many physicists. The story of their lives inspires me. In addition, I came to this industry as a predestined person, so I always believe in the saying ‘Career chooses people’ to strive for.”
However, the first days of studying at Bach Khoa with Xuyen were not easy. Studying general subjects at school is quite difficult. Even, Xuyen was shocked and burst into tears right in the Algebra exam room because she saw that she did not do well.
“At that time, an upperclassman studying Algebra again, seeing me crying in the middle of the exam room, encouraged me: ‘You can rest assured, God will not disappoint hard workers’. And fortunately, I passed that subject, although not really satisfied.”
At the end of the first year of general education and transitioning to basic subjects, things also started to get better and better. In the first two years, Xuyen’s GPA was always in the top of her class and at Excellent.

At the beginning of the 3rd year, because she wanted to help friends who were struggling like me before, Tuyen accepted free tutors for the younger students, those of the same age and some of the upperclassmen had to re-learn basic subjects. department.
Xuyen’s enthusiasm and deep support made many people known. By the end of the 3rd year, because the number of students wanting to ask for Xuyen’s tutoring was increasing day by day, the female student decided to open an online class with a fee of 150,000 VND/course. Thanks to that, every year, Xuyen helps about 400 Polytechnic students “pass through the threshold” of basic subjects and no longer feel afraid of these subjects.
“Although I am not the best, this is not my major, but I always support my friends with everything I get during my studies. And when you have difficulty or any question that needs help, I always try to find the answer in the most appropriate way.
Teaching not only helps me earn extra income to cover tuition fees, but also strengthens my knowledge and helps me improve my speaking fluency.”
Also during her university years, Xuyen many times won certificates of merit or encouragement awards from schools and institutes. Each time, Xuyen’s mother is happy and appreciates each certificate of merit, because it is also the biggest source of motivation to help her forget all difficulties and struggles to continue trying.
“Mother is the greatest source of motivation”
On the day Xuyen wore a bachelor’s shirt, the mother also came to witness her daughter’s joy. Hugging her mother, Yen said, “I can be proud now, because you have become the valedictorian”.
“Indeed, it would be a lie to say that you have never had low self-esteem about your situation. But until now, I believe that my mother is a very admirable person.”
Truyen said, during her childhood, she always admired her mother’s efforts, always trying at all costs for her children to have a brighter future.
“I always remember Tet when I was still in high school. It was on the night of the 30th Tet, it was raining heavily, but my mother still had to go to the bathroom. Mom didn’t come home until 3 a.m. sweeping the trash. At that time, I was in tears because of the pain. I decided to work hard to build a house and take care of my mother in the future.
Up until now, although my family is still poor, I hope that today’s achievement will be the beginning of what I will achieve in my future career. And, my mother is the biggest motivation for me to do those things.”
“After all, I think I’m luckier than a lot of people because I still have a mother. Although my mother is not a man or woman, to me, she is a kind and extraordinary person.”Xuyen said excitedly.
