In the final of the men’s 90-95 kg weight class Pencak Silat, athlete Saranon Glompnm (Thailand) faced Sheik Farhan (Singapore). Saranon dominated Singapore for most of the match, he repeatedly hit Farhan but was not counted by the referee.

Every time the Thai boxer makes the correct blow, the referee refuses to score. The Thai team’s coaching staff repeatedly reacted to the referee’s management but to no avail. Annoyed at the thought that she was being coerced, Saranon then removed her armor and refused to continue competing.

Because Saranon Glompanm gave up midway, she only received silver and gold belonged to the athlete of Singapore. In this year’s tournament, Pencak Silat Singapore emerged winning 4 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronzes – their best achievement in history.

However, Mr. Ajarn Nakhorn Thongkham, deputy general secretary of the Thai Pencak Silat Federation, did not hesitate to say that the Singaporeans had a certain impact on Pencak Silat at SEA Games 31 for the referees to force Thai athletes Lan and bring advantages to the martial artists of the island nation of lions.

“Competition contents are manipulated by Singaporeans,” Mr. Ajarn told Thai media. “Thai athletes were forced to execute and the referees made the wrong decisions that have never been seen in history.”
