Ho Chi Minh City recovers more than 1,300 billion dong of corruption

The information was stated by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in the report on anti-corruption work in the area in the first quarter, sent to the Government Inspector, on May 18.

The amount to be recovered in corruption cases is very low. In the first quarter, the People’s Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City handled 12 cases with 22 defendants for corruption with a total amount of nearly 6,000 billion VND, but just recovered more than 8 billion VND (equivalent to 0.13%). City People’s Court handled 13 cases with 70 defendants, tried 6 cases with the amount of corruption more than 586 billion VND, recovered 20 billion VND (3.4%).

The City People’s Committee said that the difficulty in anti-corruption work is that relevant documents are often released in a “secret” mode, making it difficult to access. Some inspection conclusions and recommendations have not been fully and promptly complied with by enforcement units.

The progress of investigating corruption cases and cases is slow because of the complexity and mistakes made many years ago, so it is difficult to collect documents and evidence. Cadres, civil servants and people are also afraid, even respectful, not resolute in fighting and criticizing.

To overcome difficulties, the Ho Chi Minh City government proposed the Government Inspectorate to build a national database system on asset control, centralized income and share information and data according to its authority.

Regarding the anti-corruption work in the area, in April, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee Phan Dinh Trac asked Ho Chi Minh City to speed up the investigation and handling of corruption cases. 7 cases belonging to the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Negativity as assigned.
