Monkeypox outbreak in some countries

Portuguese health authorities said that five rare cases of monkeypox have been detected. The UK reported at least 7 infections. Spain is also testing eight suspected cases. The US recorded 1 case.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is working with UK health authorities and the European Union to assess the disease.

Monkeypox is usually transmitted by human contact with monkeys, with a mortality rate of about 10%. The virus can enter through skin wounds and respiratory tract, symptoms appear within 5-21 days of infection, including fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills and fatigue tired. The most obvious manifestation is a rash, which then forms skin lesions.
