Popular scooter options with large capacity in Vietnam
Besides the scooters for women with fashionable designs, the scooter segment for men is also quite interested by manufacturers. In Vietnam, scooters with sporty design and powerful engines are gradually becoming popular.
Here are 5 scooter models under 175 cc with the best capacity being sold on the market. At the end of this week, Honda Vietnam will also introduce a scooter model using a 160 cc engine.
Honda PCX 160
The PCX series is no longer strange to Vietnamese users, including the PCX 160 version. Although Honda Vietnam has temporarily stopped distributing PCX, outside private dealers are still selling PCX 160 at a price of about approx. 88 million dong.
Honda PCX 160 was first launched in December 2020, 4 months later this scooter model appeared in Vietnam. At that time, the PCX 160 was the largest cylinder capacity under 175 cc scooter sold on the market.
The engine block of PCX 160 has a capacity of 156 cc, liquid-cooled, producing 15.5 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, maximum torque of 15 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
In the price range of nearly VND 90 million, Honda PCX 160 competes with names like Honda SH 150i CBS (VND 90.29 million) or Vespa GTS Super 125 (VND 92.6 million).
User-friendly design is the reason why PCX does not have good sales in Vietnam, and Honda has stopped genuine distribution of this model. However, with a comfortable sitting position and aerodynamic design, this is a model suitable for long-distance travel.
Yamaha NVX
Yamaha introduced the first generation NVX in 2016 as a replacement for the Nouvo line of scooters. At the end of 2020, the NVX model sold in Vietnam received upgrades in design, equipment and engine power.
The NVX is aimed at men, so it has a rather aggressive design with angular lines and bulging shapes on the sides, large tires of 110/80 and 140/70. If the front stands out with the ABS brake system, the rear of the NVX scores points thanks to its double rear shock absorber with oil tank.
The “heart” of the Yamaha NVX is a 155.1 cc Blue Core engine with integrated VVA variable valve. This engine block produces 15.1 horsepower and maximum torque of 13.9 Nm. Compared to the old model, the new NVX is 0.4 hp more powerful and 0.1 Nm more powerful.
In addition to increasing engine power, the new generation of NVX also receives the Y-Connect phone connection feature, which is also the first model of Yamaha Vietnam to have this feature.
Although easier to see than the Honda PCX, the NVX is a bit too sporty compared to the Air Blade, so it can only reach users who prefer a bunker scooter model, but ordinary customers still choose. Air Blade for everyday commuting needs.
Honda Vario 160
Although it has never been officially distributed, the name Honda Vario has always received attention from a group of young customers. Not long ago, Vario 160 was opened for sale in Vietnam through a private dealer.
The Vario 160 has a completely different design from the previous generation, the Vario 125 and 150. The neat design style has been replaced by a bunker with an enlarged front windmill. Notably, the Vario 160 now has an additional ABS brake option in addition to the familiar ABS braking system.
Vario 160 uses the same engine as “brother” PCX 160, but the power is slightly tweaked. The Honda Vario 160 engine block produces 15.3 horsepower and 13.8 Nm of maximum torque. It can be seen that the power of the Vario 160 is not too different from the NVX, but the advantage of mass helps the Honda model to have better acceleration.
Honda Vario 160 has a starting price of 74 million VND for CBS brakes, ABS version has a price of 78 million VND. Not being officially distributed is the disadvantage of this car.
