Stunned with the price of Musang King durian grown in Vietnam

This price is 5-6 times higher than Ri 6 durian, equivalent to imported frozen Musang King durian (converted to durian rice).

According to Mr. Hoang Trung Quan, manager of Hoang Kim durian store (No Trang Long street, Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City), in April, the store returned to the first batch of Musang King durians with the quantity of only 10, the price sold at that time up to 800,000 VND/kg.

Compared to the beginning of April, the price of fresh Musang King durian has decreased but is still at nearly 500,000 VND/kg. The whole store only has 2 left.

“This time, the store imported 150 fruits, with the selling price of 499,000 VND/kg. In just 4 days, almost sold out, only 2 left. It is expected that by the end of the week (May 21), Musang King durian will arrive. Next to the new batch, the store is accepting pre-orders and delivering them gradually. All goods are imported directly from affiliated gardens in Dong Nai, without intermediaries. This durian variety weighs about 2-3 kg/fruit. In particular, the fruit is up to 4 kg, the price is more than 2 million dong,” said Quan.

According to Quan, Musang King durian is a famous variety in the world, so most durian connoisseurs know it. The outstanding feature of this type of durian is the mild aroma, the rice is flexible, the sweetness is mild, the aftertaste is pleasant, the seeds are small and very flat, so many people like it.

Musang King durian has a small fruit size, so the segments are also small

“Some consumers have high coal prices when compared to many other durian varieties, but the current price has already fallen and is difficult to reduce further because supply is still tight. It will be a few years, when there are many Musang King durian orchards. Once harvested, the price will gradually cool down,” said Quan.

Musang King durian has a star-shaped bottom

According to Ms. Chau, owner of Ngoc Chau Fruits shop (Bui Minh Truc Street, District 8), this year, the store first sold Musang King durians for 599,000 VND/kg and sold 50 fruits.

“Compared to the Ri 6 durian on the side of the store, the price of Musang King is 6 times higher, so it is very picky. This product line is mainly for curious customers to buy to experience and show class. This durian rice is very good. delicious, pleasant aroma but hard thorns, good long distance transportation “- commented the owner of this store.

Due to the high selling price, just one small durian costs more than 770,000 VND

Meanwhile, according to the director of a durian export business in Ho Chi Minh City, the current price of Musang King durian is as high as it is today because it is still scarce, and only later when the goods are mass-produced, they will return to their true value. “Small goods, high prices, so they can only be sold domestically to rich customers, cannot be exported because they are not competitive,” he said.

The owner of a large durian garden in Vinh Long said that his family also planted a few Musang King seedlings to “have fun”, the rest still grew Ri 6. The reason was that the cost of growing Musang King was high from seedlings, but with high yield. The yield is lower due to the small size of the fruit.

Imported Musang King durian sold in frozen form

Musang King is a famous Malaysian durian variety. Vietnam also imports a lot of these durians in the form of frozen, packed and vacuum sealed in 400g bags with prices ranging from 450,000 to 600,000 VND/bag/box.
