The biological mother abused her 3-year-old daughter to brain injury and death

As expected, on May 23, the Family and Juvenile Court (HCMC People’s Court) will hear the first instance defendant Tran Thi Dung (born in 1994, hometown of Thua Thien – Hue) for murder.

This is a case that causes public outrage because Dung has violently abused her 3-year-old biological child, TNCC, resulting in brain injury and death.

According to the indictment, Dung has five children, all of whom have not identified their biological father. In September 2020, Dung brought his grandson C and his grandson TVNK (4 years old) from Thua Thien – Hue province to Ho Chi Minh City to sell lottery tickets, beg and live in many places.

In November 2020, Dung rented a room in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City. At dawn on November 17, 2020, Dung got up to cook porridge for her two children to eat. C. woke up, Dung took him to the toilet and continued to cook porridge.

After a while, Dung went to the toilet and saw that C. made his body dirty, so he got angry, hit, held the baby’s legs upside down, and hit the baby’s head on the floor several times.

C. cried and had bleeding on her face. Dung used a towel to wipe it and continued to hold her legs up to hit her head on the floor and then threw it down. Dung continued to hit C’s head, back, stomach and face many times with his hands.

At about 8 o’clock the same day, Dung took C. to the toilet. Seeing C. unconscious, Dung carried him to the street and asked someone to take him to District 12 Hospital for emergency treatment. After that, child C was transferred to Children’s Hospital 2 for treatment, but on January 15, 2021, he died.

At the police station, Dung said that he was angry, so he abused his biological daughter, leading to her brain injury and death.

The People’s Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City concluded that Dung’s behavior was dangerous to society, infiltrated the lives of other people protected by law, and adversely affected social order. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly punish before the law for deterrence, education and general prevention.
