Vietnamese athlete stripped of 31st SEA Games medal for wearing wrong shoes
On the evening of May 18, the Organizing Committee of the 31st SEA Games athletics had a meeting at My Dinh Stadium and came to a decision to take the silver medal from Lo Thi Thanh in the women’s 10,000m race.
In the women’s 10,000m race, Pham Thi Hong Le won gold, and Lo Thi Thanh won silver. After this content ended and BTC announced the results, the Singaporean delegation suddenly filed a lawsuit against Lo Thi Thanh wearing inappropriate shoes when competing.
This incident forced the athletics organizers at SEA Games 31 had to hold an emergency meeting on the evening of May 18 at My Dinh yard. After reviewing, the BTC came to a decision to take away Lo Thi Thanh’s silver.
Athlete Khin Mar Se (Myanmar) won bronze to receive silver, while athlete Goh Chui Ling (Singapore) from 4th place was promoted to receive bronze.
Nguyen Manh Hung – General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation and leader of the Vietnam athletics team, said: “Before the competition, the international referee team checked and found that Lo Thi Thanh was wearing inappropriate shoes. This is a type of shoe that supports athletes’ performance. Thanh changed to another shoe and was approved by the referee to compete. .
However, after the Singapore side filed a lawsuit, the arbitration team said that Lo Thi Thanh had violated the rules and had to cancel the result.
This is indeed a very unfortunate incident. For Lo Thi Thanh personally, her training efforts after 1 year were poured into the river into the sea because of the confusing decision of the referee team.
The track and field team will enter the final day of competition today. After 5 days of competition, Vietnamese athletics won 19 gold medals, exceeding the set target.
