Drone – unmanned aerial vehicle, gradually becoming a personal plane

Drones became mainstream in the 2000s. However, back then it was just an easy to fly and wobbly toy with a battery that would run out in a few minutes.

Jetson (Sweden) company recently sold the first advanced Drone model called Jetson ONE, priced at 92,000 USD. There have been about 320 orders for Jetson ONE for the purpose of making personal flying vehicles.

The Jetson ONE is made of lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber and can carry one person. The video provided by Jetson shows the plane flying over the Italian countryside at an altitude of about 6 meters above the ground. It is possible to turn Drones into a personal aircraft, because of the design towards the safety of the occupants. When one propeller fails it still has the other propellers working.

Drones of some companies are equipped with “ballistic parachutes” that help the occupants to deploy the parachute to escape in the event of an accident. The limitation of “ballistic parachute” is that it forces the Drone to fly at a minimum altitude of 30 m. The Jetson ONE can fly lower, but in case of an accident, it can still self-deploy the “roll cage” to keep the owner safe.

Along with Drones, dozens of companies worldwide are currently building “electric vertical take-off and landing” (eVTOL) vehicles. Their goal in the next 10 years can help us move from the city center to the airport easily and quickly. The advantage of eVTOL over airplanes is that they do not need a runway and are guided by software, so pilots do not need many skills.

Experiments on unmanned flying cars have also been tested by many companies. “However, the fact that Drones become personal flying vehicles is now becoming more and more possible” – Magazine Wired of the US commented.
