Proposal to summon the grandmother of an 8-year-old girl who was abused by her father and ‘step-aunt’ to court

The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City has just accepted the file and is about to schedule a trial for the case of young Nguyen Thai VA being tortured to death by her father and “step-aunt” at the Topaz 2 Saigon Pearl apartment building (Binh Thanh district).

Immediately after transferring the case file to the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City, the People’s Procuracy of the same level signed a decision to request the Court to summon 6 people to attend the trial of 2 defendants Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang (27 years old, from Gia Lai) and Nguyen Kim Trung Thai (37 years old, living in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

Accordingly, 6 people were proposed to be summoned to attend the trial, including: Ms. Nguyen Thi H. (A.’s mother), A.’s paternal grandmother; nannies A. and Ms. P. (teacher of Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, District 1) and 2 security guards of the hospital where A. was taken to the emergency room.

According to the prosecution, grandchild A is the biological child of Thai and Nguyen Thi H. In the process of living together, many conflicts arose, so in August 2020, Thai and sister H. divorced, Thai was allowed to raise grandchild A.

In September 2020, Thai brought his lover Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang to live together as husband and wife at Topaz 2 Saigon Pearl apartment (Binh Thanh district).

Around October 2021, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, A. studied online at home, Thai assigned Trang to stay at home to take care of and tutor A.

During the period from December 7 to 22, 2021, Trang repeatedly used her hands, feet, wooden sticks, whips, metal rods (connecting pipes of vacuum cleaners) to beat and brutally abuse her nephew A. many different ways.

There are days when Trang beats up A. in a state of no clothes, kneels and raises her arms, forcing A. to go into the doghouse and keep the dog, kneeling in the doghouse.

Witnessing her daughter being brutally abused by her lover, Thai did not stop her but also scolded her with Trang.

The climax was on December 22, 2021, from 14h to 14h30, Trang forced A. to kneel to do homework for Trang to check.

Next, she didn’t even let A. wear clothes, and used a wooden stick to hit him hard in a row, pounding on A.’s body.

More brutally, when this hand was tired, Trang changed the other hand to beat the baby. When her hand hurt, Trang put on gloves and continued to beat A.

Not satisfied, Trang also used her foot to kick, kick repeatedly in many parts of her body or hit her head and face with her hands. A. While hitting, she cursed at the baby.

At 18:00 on the same day, the baby lost consciousness, Trang phoned to Thai. At the same time, Thai had just come home from work and ran to give first aid to A., then accompanied Trang to take him to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Knowing well the incident through the camera, but to cover up the cruel behavior of himself and his lover, Thai deleted all the data of the 4 cameras in the apartment.

According to the conclusion of the forensic examination of the Criminal Technical Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, the cause of death of Nguyen Thai Van A. was acute pulmonary edema due to traumatic shock.

The Prosecutor’s Office prosecuted defendant Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang (27 years old, from Gia Lai) on charges of “Murder”, “Abusing others” and Nguyen Kim Trung Thai (37 years old, living in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) on charges of ” Torture others”, “Concealing criminals”.
