Tom Ford leaves the chair of the fashion association CFDA?-Fashion Trends

Tom Ford’s three-year term as President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America is coming to an end.

Designer Tom Ford’s role as president of the prestigious CFDA fashion association (CFDA – Association of Fashion Designers of America) will end later this month on May 31, and CEO Steven Kolb will retain his position. acting as interim chairman as the council searches for his replacement. The CFDA intends to announce a new president in the Fall and the new president to take over in January 2023.

During his tenure as CFDA president, Ford tweaked the New York Fashion Week calendar notably by shrinking it down to five days and five nights instead of the grueling seven-day eight-night format. Among its accomplishments, Ford has also established a specific calendar for American collections, allowing American designers to have more say in how they choose to present their shows.

Ford was originally slated to serve as chairman of the board for only two years but later added another year to his term. Board presidents typically hold the position for two to four years, with the exception of Diane Von Furstenberg, who held the office for 13 years and was his predecessor.

“The CFDA and the Board of Directors thank Tom Ford for his leadership in working on behalf of the US fashion industry during an unprecedented time. Tom initiated a number of key initiatives that the CFDA remains committed to implementing,” the association of American designers said.

While Ford will no longer serve as chairman of the CFDA, Business of Fashion confirmed that he will remain on the board along with current members Vera Wang, Sam Herman, Tracy Reese, Thom Brown, Aurora James and Tory Burch. Regarding his ending tenure, Ford released a statement as follows: “I am honored to have been able to support truly incredible talent in the US fashion industry for three years. and I look forward to continuing in my role on the CFDA Board of Directors.”
