Ukrainian commander remains in Mariupol, vows to continue fighting

In a piece posted on May 19, Mr. Krotevych hinted that he would not surrender, declaring “the war continues”.

Another officer of the Azov Battalion who is still at the Azovstal steel plant posted a short video statement on the evening of May 19.

Sviatoslav Palamar, deputy commander of the Azov Battalion, said: “The commander and I are in the area of ​​the Azovstal plant. An operation is underway. I will not elaborate. I am grateful to the world and Ukraine for their support. I’ll see you guys again!”

Palamar gave no information about the campaign he was referring to.

Some Russian politicians have petitioned to put the commanders of the Azov Battalion on trial as war criminals if caught. The Russian press often refers to these forces as “neo-fascist” nationalist fighters.
