Biden’s Air Force One landed at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, then the US President went to a Samsung chip factory in the city, where he met President Yoon Suk-yeol. Samsung’s head Lee Jae-yong read the opening remarks, then the presidents also delivered speeches.

Reportedly, the President in South Korea changed after the election in March. Yoon Seok-yeol’s inauguration ceremony took place on May 10. However, during the entire speech until the last moment, Mr. Biden addressed Mr. Yoon Suk-yeol several times and called him by his name, including in his welcome speech.

This is Biden’s first visit to South Korea since taking office in the United States, and comes just 10 days after Yoon Suk-yeol took office as president.

As planned, the South Korea-US summit will take place on May 21 with two narrow and broad sessions, with a focus on North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and countermeasures. security and economic challenges facing America’s allies and the region, Washington’s commitment to strengthening commercial and economic cooperation with allies in the region.

At the Korea-US summit, President Yoon Suk-yeol is expected to announce Seoul’s participation in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, an initiative proposed by President Biden to ensure secure and resilient supply chains, set the rules of the digital economy, and invest in clean, modern and standard infrastructure sectors.

The summit will also see the two countries expand their military and economic alliance to include technology alliances.

According to the South Korean Presidential Office, the goal of this high-level meeting is to establish the comprehensive strategic alliance between the Republic of Korea and the United States and its role in peace and prosperity in East Asia.
