On the morning of May 21, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) held a ceremony to honor outstanding scientific and technological intellectuals in 2022.

Those selected to be honored are intellectuals working in institutes, centers, research institutions, universities, enterprises or agencies of industries, fields, localities or in the VUSTA system from 10 years or more, has scientific reputation, has many practical and effective contributions to the development of the industry, agencies and units; recognized by the society, nominated by that agency or unit and introduced by agencies and units of the VUSTA system.

Speaking at the ceremony, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated that throughout the nation’s history of building and defending the country, his father always appreciated talents and intellectuals, considering talent as the national resource. family. Right from the time the country gained its independence, President Ho Chi Minh said that “the country needs to be built, it needs to have talents.”

In the cause of industrialization and modernization, our Party has consistently determined science and technology is the national book. The 13th Party Congress once again emphasized the need to develop science, technology and innovation as a strategic breakthrough of the country, especially in the context of the digital revolution taking place strongly in the world. Globally, the team of Vietnamese science and technology intellectuals is the core of this process.

The State President assessed the activity of honoring typical scientific and technological intellectuals as a form of great humanitarian significance, demonstrating the Party and State’s attention, respect and treatment, and at the same time encouraging recognition of individuals who have made many outstanding contributions to the socio-economic development of the country in general and of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations in particular. Especially this year, with an objective and scientific approach, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations has selected 106 typical scientific intellectuals; in which there are many old scientists who have made great contributions and many young and female scientists who have made many contributions to the country.

The title of typical scientific and technological intellectual not only brings pride to the honored person himself and his family, but also becomes a great honor and responsibility for the Unions and Associations. member associations to continue to pay attention to and do better the work of gathering, uniting and promoting the creativity of the national team of scientific and technological intellectuals, performing well the functions and tasks assigned by the Party, The State assigns and actively contributes to socio-economic development, ensures national defense and security, international integration, firmly consolidates the foundation of the workers-farmer-intellectual union, for the sake of the goal. rich people, strong country, democracy, justice and civilization.

The President also praised the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations for nearly 40 years for gathering, uniting and promoting the creativity of the Vietnamese scientific and technological intellectuals at home and abroad. The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations has gathered more than 3.7 million members; in which there are 2.2 million scientific and technological intellectuals, accounting for 32.5% of the national intellectual workforce; Many scientists have been honored as Labor Heroes. The members of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the national team of science and technology intellectuals have made an important contribution to the national innovation capacity of Vietnam. In 2021, Vietnam maintains its position in the Top 45 leading innovation countries globally, is the country with the leading position in the Global Innovation Index among low-middle-income economies. ranked.

Noting the achievements, the President also frankly pointed out a number of limitations such as the low technology capacity and level of the economy, the industry is still mainly outsourcing, assembly, and added value. not high increase; supporting industries develop slowly, the localization rate is low, effective participation in global value chains is limited, the growth model is not based on science-technology, innovation, the autonomy of the economy is still low, still dependent on the outside.

Mentioning that the Fourth Industrial Revolution has opened up opportunities for Vietnam to shorten the gap and accelerate development, the President emphasized the country’s position and requirements, which are demanding scientific intellectuals. domestic technology should work harder, be more creative, create more value for life from their research, inventions and inventions.

As an organization representing scientific and technological intellectuals, and an important component in the political system in Vietnam, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and its member organizations should do the following: better the role of consulting on science and technology policy, innovation, financial mechanism and policy, working conditions, remuneration… for the Party, State and Government; better connect scientists, build great solidarity to contribute to the successful implementation of national development goals in the new period.
