At least 70 people were killed by lightning in India in a week

Lightning is considered the biggest cause of death from natural disasters in India.

According to India’s 2nd Annual Lightning Report, Bihar state has recorded many people death by lightning from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 (401 people), followed by Uttar Pradesh (238), Madhya Pradesh (228), Odisha (156) and Jharkhand (132). Other states reported fewer than 100 deaths during this same time period.

Basically, the states reported deaths from the cases lightning strike from 2019 to 2020 decreased, except for Bihar state. Accordingly, the state of Bihar has seen an 81% increase in deaths from lightning strikes, from 221 cases reported between April 2019 and March 2020 to 401 people from April/April. 2020 to March 2021.

Besides, the number of lightning strikes has increased by 34%. Punjab reports a 331% increase in lightning strikes according to annual lightning reports between 2020-2021, this rate in Bihar state is 168%, Haryana state 164%, Puducherry state 117%, Himachal Pradesh state 105% and the state of West Bengal 100%.
