Doja Cat cancels show because of tonsillectomy

This information has been Doja Cat shared in a statement posted on both Twitter and Instagram: “Unfortunately, I have to have tonsillectomy as soon as possible. The surgery is procedural but recovery will take some time due to swelling. which means I have to cancel my festival activities this summer as well as The Weeknd tour.”

“I feel so horrible about this but can’t wait for it to heal and get back to making music and creating experiences for all of you,” added Doja Cat.

This news is said to be not entirely unexpected. On Thursday, the singer tweeted that her doctor found an “abscess” in her left tonsil.

“My whole throat is bad so coming soon I can have some bad news for you,” Doja said in an earlier post.

The 26-year-old singer revealed that she was treated with antibiotics for a sore throat before the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on May 15. However, she did confess that she had been drinking and vaping all day and then her tonsils went bad and surgery was inevitable.

Having won four Billboard Awards that night, it’s easy to see why Doja was in a celebratory mood. However, after this, the singer realized that some compromises were worth making for the sake of her own health.
