Germany sends 32 tons of baby formula to the US

Story formula milk crisis in the US continues to be a hot topic in the world’s number one economy. The CEO of Abbott milk powder company on May 21 had to apologize for the shortage baby powdered milk in America.

US military aircraft transported 1.5 million boxes of Nestle formula and it is expected that this milk will be delivered to US customers in the coming days.

These first flights carrying baby formula from Europe will partly solve the current serious milk shortage in the US.

This week, the US Food and Drug Administration also relaxed import requirements for baby formula to try to ease supply shortages.

Earlier, on May 18, US President Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to help dairy manufacturers get the ingredients they need to increase supply.

In addition, Mr. Biden also directed US agencies to use commercial aircraft of the Department of Defense to bring formula from abroad into the US.

Also on May 18, the US House of Representatives passed two bills to address the shortage of infant formula. New legislation passed by the US House of Representatives authorizes a $28 billion emergency fund to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to speed up the inspection of foreign-made formula and ensure ensure that there is no shortage of this product.

The shortage of milk for babies in the US became more serious when Abbott’s factory in Michigan was forced to close in February, following a recall of products suspected of killing two infants.
