Russia officially cuts off gas sources to Finland

In its statement, the Gasum gas company said that the Russian energy group Gazprom announced it would stop supplying natural gas from the morning of May 21. However, Gasum will continue to supply gas to domestic customers with other gas sources through the Balticconnector pipeline, and affirmed that gas supply will not be interrupted.

On May 17, Gasum warned that Russia would soon cut gas to Finland as soon as this week because the country refused to pay Russian company Gazprom in rubles.

Germany, Qatar sign energy partnership agreement

Yesterday, Germany signed an energy partnership agreement with Qatar, part of an effort to eliminate dependence on Russian oil supplies.

The agreement, signed by Qatar’s Energy Minister al-Kaabi and German Economy Minister Robert Habeck in Berlin, Germany, focuses on commodities such as hydrogen and liquefied natural gas.

Russia is the largest gas supplier to Germany. Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the German Economy Minister has launched a number of initiatives to reduce dependence on energy from Russia.
