Defendant Vu Anh Duc forged signatures of his father and mother to open a bank credit card using their own savings books to guarantee.

After many times returning investigation documents to clarify, recently, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City at the first instance court sentenced Vu Anh Duc (born in 1987, living in District 8) to eight years in prison for fraud and appropriation of property. The jury also forced Germany to pay compensation to Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB) 1.3 billion VND, including 666 million VND of appropriated money and interest up to the date the case was discovered.

Records show that in September 2017, German parents opened 3 savings books of more than 600 million VND at ACB. A year later, Duc contacted an ACB employee at Hang Xanh Transaction Office (Binh Thanh District) to open a credit card for his biological aunt. At this time, Duc asked the bank staff to open a credit card by pledging the passbook of his father and mother.

After that, Duc made an appointment with a bank employee to come to the house on Ton That Thuyet Street (District 4) to do the procedure to open a credit card for his aunt and father and mother. When the bank staff arrived, Duc’s father and mother were not at home. Duc asked the bank staff to leave the file, Duc will give it to Duc’s father and mother to sign. After that, Germany forged signatures of all documents and documents related to opening credit cards for parents. Since then, Germany has appropriated more than 666 million dong from the bank.

Germany has used these credit cards as a maturity service for customers in need. On January 21, 2019, Duc gave 2 credit cards of his parents and 22 credit cards of customers to a person named Long (whose identity is unknown) to withdraw money and transfer it to a Pos machine and then back to Germany. However, after that, Long left unknown with all the money in the credit card.

On March 25, 2019, German father and mother went to the bank to withdraw interest, but the bank staff informed that the above 3 savings books had been blocked to guarantee the issuance of 2 credit cards. Later, the two filed a complaint for not opening a credit card with a passbook mortgage.
