From mid-April 2022, before the opening of the 31st SEA Games, Kym Viet’s stuffed Sao La were introduced to the market and quickly received the love of customers. The Sao La is designed with suede fabric with about 37 cut and sew details. All needles and stitches are meticulously done under the hands of people with hearing and mobility disabilities.

Overcoming fate, finding your own way

As a person with disabilities, Mr. Pham Viet Hoai understands the difficulties and disadvantages that other people with disabilities have to go through, therefore, he always has the energy to rise up in life and wishes to create a foundation for people with disabilities. help other people with disabilities.

Talking to PV, Mr. Pham Viet Hoai shared, when he was 7 years old, he experienced an accident that was “the first death in life”. After 2 years in the hospital, he recovered but his health was weak, and his legs were severed, so he was completely paralyzed.

He strives to study at home under the guidance of his father – a teacher. After that, he completed his studies like a normal person, graduated from middle school, high school, and graduated from university.

Talking about his business path, Mr. Hoai said, there is no path without thorns, few people start a business but have been successful from the beginning. Initially, Hoai and his friends opened a photocopy shop, but failed miserably, and even lost their friendship. After that, he sold prefabricated concrete fences, software disc shops, industrial equipment… however, all were not as successful as expected.

Until December 2013, Mr. Hoai and his 2 disabled friends, Le Viet Cuong and Nguyen Duc Minh, founded Kym Viet, with the main product being stuffed animals. The original factory was just 2 sewing machines with 1 overlock machine, operating in a yard of 5m .2 the family church of a company member.

He and his friends brought the first products to fairs, souvenir stalls in tourist areas across the country to sell. In the early days, finding output for products was a real challenge for people with disabilities like Mr. Hoai and his friends.

Then, with the perseverance that comes with the quality of the products, Kym Viet’s products gradually crept into the market and were loved by many people.

“We always set standards of beauty in terms of design and quality assurance to be accepted by the market. We absolutely do not take our defects out to get the love of our customers, even less take our defects to call for support and promote the company and products. We will go up by our own ability, no matter where we can, we can do it,” Hoai confided.

Regarding the upcoming plan, Mr. Hoai said that because the market has just returned after the epidemic, the immediate goal is to maintain production. After that, his bigger wish was to bring the company’s products abroad, reaching more international friends.

Currently, Kym Viet has become a strong company with 3 coffee shops, 1 of which is associated with the production of stuffed animals. Kym Viet’s sewing and stuffed animal factory has created jobs for about 30 people, mainly people with hearing impairments (deaf and mute), some with motor disabilities and intellectual disabilities, with a salary of around 30 million people. From 3-8 million VND, there is a place to eat and sleep.

Ms. Le Thi Van (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) is one of the first people to work at Kym Viet garment factory since its establishment. As a deaf and mute person, she applied for a job in many places but was not accepted or worked in some places but not for a long time due to unsuitable work and environment.

Coming to Kym Viet, Ms. Van received a lot of help, got to live and work in the environment of people in the same situation, so she had sympathy.

“I consider this as my second home. Here, I have a stable job, a living wage, and people treat each other very well,” Van shared.

Before coming here, she used to be a burden on her family, but now she is able to support herself. Besides, she also saved money to buy a motorbike, send it back to her family to help her parents raise their children to school…

As one of two people with intellectual disability at Kym Viet garment factory, Ms. Nguyen Minh Thuy (Ha Dong district, Hanoi) sometimes remembers and forgets, her limbs are slow, so she cannot sit at the sewing table. Instead, she was assigned auxiliary jobs such as cutting, pressing fabric, stuffing …

With a salary of more than 4 million VND/month, Ms. Thuy was able to support herself without having to depend on her family.
