The trio of Toyota Innova, Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross lost to Mitsubishi Xpander in the sales race in Vietnam

Since the launch of Toyota Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross in Vietnam, the small MPV segment has become vibrant with fierce competition for the leading position. Toyota Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross are considered “reinforcements” of Innova to help the Japanese automaker maintain its dominance in the segment in Vietnam.

However, the trio of Toyota Innova, Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross have not met expectations and are still only serving as a “background” for Mitsubishi Xpander to shine.

Toyota Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross were first introduced to Vietnamese customers in March 2022 and opened for sale shortly after. However, the time of about 10 days on sale was not enough for this duo to make a difference and only in April 2022, the first achievements were recorded.

However, the trio of Toyota models are still inferior to their direct rival, Mitsubishi Xpander, in the sales race in the small 7-seat MPV segment in Vietnam.

Accordingly, Toyota Innova recorded a record low sales with 93 cars handed over to customers in April 2021. This is in stark contrast to the past when, once, Innova always had sales of nearly 1,000 cars/month.

Toyota Innova is no longer suitable for the needs of the majority of service customers, especially when there are Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross, Innova is even more disadvantaged as a secondary choice in the segment because of its high price. .

Meanwhile, Toyota Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross recorded total sales of 1,336 units sold in April. Since opening for sale, this new MPV duo has also had 2,170 cars delivered to domestic customers, sales are also relatively impressive with new, scarce cars.

Accumulating all three 7-seat MPV models of Toyota Vietnam today in April 2022, sales only stopped at 1,429 cars leaving the dealership. Particularly, Toyota Rush now has no more cars and was killed from the Vietnamese market after less than 4 years of presence.

On the other side of the front line, despite facing a trio of cars from Toyota, Mitsubishi Xpander showed its sublimation when it had impressive sales. Mitsubishi Xpander achieved sales of 1,652 vehicles sold in April and by this time in 2022, 5,521 vehicles left the dealership.

Mitsubishi Xpander still shows amazing stability in the Vietnamese market and makes 3 competitors Toyota Innova, Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross have to submit. In the near future, it is likely that 3 models of Toyota Innova, Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross will still be difficult to overthrow the dominance of Mitsubishi Xpander in Vietnam.

The reason is because of the upgrade of Mitsubishi Xpander has returned to Vietnam dealer and wait for the official launch date this June.
