Over the past 11 days, gasoline prices in the US have hit record highs, with the national average most recently reaching $4,593 per gallon (1 gallon = 3.78 liters).

The American Automobile Association (AAA) called this a period of “unprecedented” price increases.

Speaking to Fox News, Andrew Gross, a spokesman for AAA, said gasoline prices are expected to increase throughout the summer of 2022, especially if conflict in Ukraine still going on.

According to AAA, gasoline prices in all 50 states in the US are above $4/gallon, of which California recorded the highest price, averaging at $6,064/gallon.

The cheapest prices were recorded in the states of Kansas and Oklahoma, averaging at $4,048 and $4,033 per gallon, respectively.

Gasoline prices are being pushed up by tight demand and supply, and with holiday plans approaching, the situation shows no sign of slowing down.

Usually this time of year is a “calm” in demand between spring break and Memorial Day, Mr. Gross said. This happened about two weeks ago, but then, last week, the price of gas went up again, which is an anomaly.

However, AAA believes that high gasoline prices will still not “retain” people during the holiday Memorial Day.

The organization predicts 39.2 million won American people will travel at least 50 miles from their home this holiday, up 8.3% from last year.
