“Gold mine” 5 times broke the SEA Games record
As expected, when diving entered the competition on May 21, the Vietnamese team gained a great boost. Out of 7 events taking place today, Vietnamese athletes won up to 5 gold medals. In particular, all these 5 gold medals came after the SEA Games record-breaking performances.
Vietnamese diving athletes who won gold on May 21 include: Nguyen Thanh Loc (men’s 100m), Pham Thi Thu (women’s 100m), Kim Anh Kiet (1,500m single propeller for men), Cao Thi Duyen (100m propeller) women’s doubles), men’s diving team (4x200m men’s propeller relay).


Tomorrow, May 22, diving will compete in the remaining 6 events. With what has been shown, the Vietnamese diving team can completely win more gold medals.
Handball also had a full day with 2 gold medals for the women’s team and the men’s team. Thus, the Vietnamese handball team ended the SEA Games with the achievement of 3/3 gold medals in the competition contents.

By the end of the competition day on May 21, the Vietnamese sports delegation had won 181 gold medals, 106 silver medals and 106 bronze medals. The number of 181 gold medals has now far surpassed the old record for the number of gold medals in a congress of the Vietnamese delegation set since the 22nd SEA Games (158 gold medals).
In front of Vietnam is another milestone: The record for the number of gold medals won by a sports team in a SEA Games was set by Indonesia in 1997 with 194 gold medals.
