If you don’t know what to do with life, remember these 6 things

You feel like you are drifting on some dull sea, can’t see the shore. Don’t worry because you’re not alone. In fact, you are part of a large group of people in this world who do not know what to do with life nor how to find out.

Remember, that’s completely normal. We are born with the limitless capacity to discover our inner calling. Life is always changing and the right choice will change as your journey is discovered

Here are suggestions to steer you in the right direction, discovering what you really want to achieve in this life:

1. The future is not something for us to see

If you don't know what to do with life, remember these 6 things - 1

Just imagine what will happen in the future, do not fall into the trap of thinking that you must always have a plan for your whole life.

You cannot control everything that happens to you, about your health, your work situation, your family and many other changes that cannot be planned.

However, you can look ahead, make your predictions, and work on doing as many things that bring you joy as possible. Whether it’s developing your career or spending more time on a hobby, you’re making your life’s journey more enjoyable. You can discover your new strengths through experiences.

And for the things you can’t anticipate, be proactive to face and overcome. Life is unavoidably uncertain, but that’s what makes it interesting.

2. Accept discomfort to achieve happiness

Everyone’s life is like that, it rarely goes as smoothly as you want. That said, everyone will go through some really uncomfortable times at some point. It could be a physical deprivation that keeps you from doing what you want or an emotional shock that makes your world wobble. Accept the fact that you cannot avoid collisions completely.

Each time you experience such discomfort, you will gradually learn more about yourself and what you want for the future. You will be more clear about what you have and what you are not willing to endure. This will direct you to more relevant perspectives on your journey.

For example: You may have wanted to be a lawyer, but the future with many more years of study, 70 hours of work per week and a meager salary makes you think. You’ve gone through some extremely uncomfortable times but have learned where your limits are when it comes to pushing yourself mentally and physically towards your career goals. Now you can make adjustments and find yourself other opportunities that better match your abilities.

3. Eliminate distractions, stop procrastinating

Never forget that time waits for no one. You may want to explore and follow your dreams, but you will never be able to do it if you put off the inevitable. Make time for your hobbies, your family, and other things you really value; Make the most of the remaining time instead of wasting it.

To be able to find your right path, it definitely takes hard work and effort. You need to put your mind to work, move your body and make the most of the time you have.

Research potential directions in your field, talk more with experienced front-runners, and even try it out to see if it’s right for you. You can never be sure how much you will like something until you actually do it. And you can only do that when you stop making excuses and stop wasting your precious time.

4. Ask questions

You won’t gain knowledge if you stop asking questions. Sometimes, you will find big questions helpful to you like: “What are you most passionate about? What would you prioritize more, money or time”…

However, there will be times when you find answering the trivia questions is a way for you to determine your direction. Do you like working in an office environment? Would you rather live in the city or in the countryside? Is downtime important to you?

The more you ask and answer these questions, the closer you will come to understanding who you are and what your ideals are.

5. Willing to make sacrifices in the short term

If you don't know what to do with life, remember these 6 things - 4

You may be in a situation of need, loss, not knowing what to do with your life and want to get somewhere. However, there is quite a distance between where you are and where you want to go. Besides the discomfort, what you have to get used to is sacrifice. If you want to take the leap to a more fulfilled life, you’ll almost certainly have to give up some of the things you currently take for granted.

Example: After doing your research and answering the right questions, you decide to start a business. However, you do not have enough capital to do so. You may have to work overtime, save money and even give up the luxuries you currently have using cars and vacations to make your dreams come true.

You may have to be willing to make sacrifices in order to thrive in the future.

6. When the opportunity comes, be ready to take it

Sometimes, you stumble across an opportunity knocking on your door and have to be ready to take it. Remember, trying something out is one of the most effective ways for you to discover what’s right for you. So when life tries to show you the way, don’t give up. Grab it with both hands and see where that opportunity takes you.

You may worry that it is not the right time or the right opportunity, but the truth is that you will never know unless you take action. Sitting still is also a choice, but it’s a choice you’ll likely regret in the future. We rarely regret our adventures but often regret the day we didn’t take action.
