Many streets in Hanoi are flooded after heavy rain

Local heavy rain caused many streets in Hanoi to flood 30-60 cm, obstructing traffic in the early Monday morning of the week.

From last night to this morning, many districts of Hanoi rained heavily due to the influence of a low pressure trough with an axis passing through the North. Recorded by the meteorological agency, the rainfall in the past 12 hours in Son Tay was 170 mm, nearly 150 mm in Hoai Duc, more than 120 mm in Ha Dong, nearly 90 mm in Ba Vi, and 50 mm in Lang.

The road that gathers Thang Long Boulevard turns into Bao Son Paradise, An Khanh commune, Hoai Duc district, flooded with all four lanes with a length of about 50 m, the deepest point is 60 cm. People going into the city center have to turn around and go to the boulevard.

Despite being warned by the drainage staff, some people still tried to pull the car along the edge of the road, but went further, the water flooded more than half of the car, causing the car to stall. People had to switch to walking.

Similarly, Le Trong Tan Street (Ha Dong District) from Bao Son Paradise to Thang Long Boulevard has a flooded section of more than 100 m, making it impossible for vehicles to move. A few people in digital cars wriggled across the sidewalk to continue on their route while many had to turn around and find another route.

Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh from An Khanh, Hoai Duc district, said she works in Cau Giay, starting at 8am. Because the road was flooded, she changed direction to To Huu street, but this road was also congested for a long time, so she arrived at the office 2 hours later.

Flooding also occurred at Duong Noi overpass, Ha Dong district, in both directions. Water flooded more than 40 cm from the entrance of Xuan Mai Complex to two lanes facing the bridge, causing people to go into the remaining small lane. The exits of Xuan Mai Complex apartment building were flooded, residents could not go to work this morning.

“Now everyone can’t go to work because the only way to the bridge is flooded, many cars have stalled and have to ask for help,” said Chinh, a resident of the Xuan Mai Complex apartment complex and said over the past five years. This road is so deep.
