The first country to apply a 21-day quarantine to people with monkeypox

The Belgian Risk Assessment Group (RAG) and health authorities said that infected people need to be isolated for 21 days. Symptomatic cases will have to limit contact with others until the sores subside. Anyone suspected of having monkeypox should seek medical attention.

After the festival called Darkland, Belgium has recorded 3 positive cases of the virus that causes monkeypox.

The event organizer said: “There is reason to assume the virus originated with foreign visitors to the festival as recent cases emerged in other countries.”

They were informed about the health warning of the Belgian government. Accordingly, the patient must self-isolate for 3 weeks and avoid all sexual contact.

Over the past week, the spread of monkeypox has alarmed experts. It is a rare disease caused by a virus, mainly in Africa or from people traveling to the continent.

There are currently 100 cases outside Central and West Africa, scattered in Europe, the US and Australia.

Monkeypox has an incubation period of 5 to 21 days. Therefore, people are warned to exercise caution for 3 weeks after exposure or detection of illness.

The World Health Organization says people can contract the virus through close contact with an infected person’s skin lesions, inhaling respiratory droplets, or touching a contaminated object (such as a towel or bed).

Droplet transmission requires prolonged face-to-face contact. This puts healthcare workers and family members of the patient at greater risk.

Experts say the monkeypox outbreak is less likely to be as widespread as COVID-19.

Early symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, growths of nodules, blisters, etc. Most cases are not severe, and there is little risk of death.
