MoMo’s ‘unicorn’ boss reveals the reason for choosing Da Nang as a base

The reason for this decision was recently shared by MoMo’s head of technology at a technology event just held.

Accordingly, this technology startup wants to expand its presence in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, after being present in big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

“We chose Da Nang because we believe there will be opportunities to better understand the needs and psychology of users to better serve the people here, thereby going deeper into the neighboring areas,” said Thai Tri. Hung – CTO MoMo shared.

In the immediate future, MoMo will focus on attracting personnel and building a technology team in Da Nang. The goal of this startup is to complete other parts (non-tech) in the next year to build Da Nang Technology Center with the same role and scale as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Commenting on the story of technology human resources, according to Mr. Hung, in Indonesia, attracting technology personnel is becoming very difficult. Smaller tech companies can’t find good engineers to thrive.

This expert believes that Vietnam will have the same problem as Indonesia in 2-3 years. Therefore, it is very important to prepare the team for the larger growth target.

According to a representative of the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang City, this locality has specific plans to develop the city into a smart city, attracting more unicorns to come and invest in development.

In parallel with the ongoing project of digital transformation towards a smart city, Da Nang will plan a project to build Da Nang into the new financial center of the region.

In the immediate future, Da Nang is expected to put into operation the No. 2 software park. There will be a space for startups, innovation and software businesses. The demand for technology human resources here is huge.

“Da Nang is actively working with universities to develop resources to meet growing needs, create conditions for workers in the field of technology to stay and contribute to the homeland, and at the same time have policies to encourage people to stay and contribute to their homeland. encourage and attract experts and talents from other provinces and cities to come to Da Nang to work and live,” a representative of the Danang Department of Information and Communications shared.

As one of the major cities in Vietnam, Da Nang currently possesses an abundant technology human resource with more than 40,000 employees (accounting for nearly 7% of the workforce in the area).

This is also a locality where technology human resources are continuously added from universities and colleges in the field of IT. That’s why Da Nang is expected to become one of Vietnam’s new “technology hubs”.
