At the Department of Infectious Diseases, Agricultural General Hospital is treating 10-15 children with hand, foot and mouth disease. Statistics from the beginning of 2022 until now, the whole country has 5,545 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, of which 1 case died in Binh Thuan province. The Ministry of Health predicts that hand, foot and mouth disease will tend to increase in the coming time.

According to the Ministry of Health, compared with the same period in 2021, the number of cases decreased by 83.3%, the number of deaths decreased by 9 cases. However, the number of cases tends to increase mainly in the South and locally in some provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Soc Trang.

According to the Ministry of Health, hand, foot and mouth disease in Vietnam is a year-round disease, transmitted through the gastrointestinal tract and encountered in most of 63 provinces and cities. – 11 every year.

Dr. Nguyen Van Lam – Director of the Center for Tropical Diseases – National Children’s Hospital said that hand, foot and mouth disease is spread through digestion, contact, droplets and from person to person, so climatic and environmental conditions Crowd gathering, hygiene habits are factors that spread the disease.

“To prevent hand, foot and mouth disease, it is necessary to keep a distance, keep a habit of hand hygiene, and toys must be kept clean to avoid cross-contamination.

Implement a diet that is cooked, drink boiled, foods that are easy to digest, and ensure nutrition to strengthen children. When bathing, avoid drafts. For sores in the throat, children must rinse their mouths according to the instructions and apply pain relievers.

In addition, Dr. Lam emphasized, when giving children fever-reducing drugs but do not respond, parents absolutely do not take another dose of antipyretic, leading to an overdose that causes paracetamol poisoning in children, leading to severe liver damage.

“Severe complications of hand, foot and mouth disease include encephalitis, cardiovascular disease, and acute pulmonary edema. In the fulminant form, it can cause severe conditions for pediatric patients and death if not promptly cared for and treated,” Dr. Lam added.

In order to actively prevent and control the hand, foot and mouth disease, minimize the number of cases and deaths, and prevent the epidemic from spreading, spreading and prolonging, the Ministry of Health proposed that the People’s Committees of provinces and cities direct the authorities to At all levels, branches and political, socio-political organizations shall coordinate with the health sector to drastically and synchronously deploy solutions to effectively prevent and control disease outbreaks in the locality, focusing on Areas with a high number of cases, at risk of outbreaks…

The People’s Committees of provinces and cities direct the Department of Health to closely monitor the epidemic situation, promptly detect newly arising outbreaks, localize and thoroughly handle outbreaks as soon as they are detected; strengthening mobile anti-epidemic teams, mobile emergency teams ready to investigate, verify, evaluate, handle outbreaks and support lower levels in outbreak control, emergency and treatment when necessary.

Well organize treatment classification, medical examination, collection, emergency treatment, patient treatment, arrange separate treatment areas for patients with infectious diseases, limit family visits to patients, note for severe patients, minimizing the number of deaths.

At the same time, perform well to prevent cross-contamination in treatment facilities, especially to prevent cross-infection between hand, foot and mouth disease with measles, pneumonia and other respiratory infections.
