Mr. Park said: “I brought home the gold medal to show my wife. She is also very happy. Three years ago, I gave up the 30th SEA Games gold medal to someone else. And this year, I would like to receive gold because SEA Games 31 will be the last SEA Games I accompany Vietnamese football. I was also filled with both joy and sadness at the same time. With only 1 tournament left at the team level, the AFF Cup at the end of this year, I will officially end my contract with Vietnam football federation (VFF).

Life is full of meetings and then partings. That is also a normal thing, because there are many things about the laws of life. We should not be too attached but look ahead. Myself, even though I only have 1 day to dedicate to Soccer Vietnam, I will do my best. Vietnamese football gives me many emotions, in which happiness is the biggest thing. The Vietnamese people love me and I respect the Vietnamese people very much. I am proud and touched to live a rich life in this land. The success that I have with Vietnamese football, my strength is only a part, the important pieces around me are also an important factor in creating that success.

We asked Mr. Park, personally, which outstanding achievements of Vietnamese football have been the most impressive since he led him. Unexpectedly, when the answer was… failed tournaments: “Vietnam U.22+2 team just won the 30th SEA Games gold medal, we immediately entered the Asian U.23 tournament at the beginning of 2020 and were defeated. eliminated in the group stage. The feeling of defeat is really frustrating and uncomfortable. It entangled my mind. That feeling was repeated at the AFF Cup 2020 at the end of last year when we lost to Thailand in the semi-finals. I don’t want to experience that feeling again. But to do that, we must set high goals at the AFF Cup 2022 at the end of this year. What is that high goal, maybe I don’t need to say it, everyone knows, right?”

Mr. Park talked about the hot journey he had just undergone: “SEA Games 31 left me with many impressive moments. Impressive goals, impressive celebrations of Tien Linh, Hung Dung, Manh Dung and other individuals. In the finals, it can be concluded, we won because we had a reasonable strategy. U.23 Vietnam “captured” Thailand’s space, not giving them space to play close. We have controlled the range of the opponent’s movement. Goals come as a necessity.

However, I am still worried about the upcoming journey of Vietnamese football. What I say over and over again. We have very few good young strikers. The defense is much less worrying. Thanh Binh, Viet Anh are becoming more and more mature. I have a small plan that is later when my contract expires VFF, if a club invites me to help with youth training, maybe I will accept. I help them not because of money, because of commercial problems, but I want young Vietnamese players to be helped. Tomorrow, I hope my successor coach will bring a new philosophy and will continue to raise the bar for Vietnamese football.”
