7 people died of dengue fever, the risk of an outbreak
On May 24, information from the Center for Disease Control of Ho Chi Minh City said that the situation of dengue fever (DHF) in the area is complicated. By the end of week 20 of 2022, the city has recorded 8,481 cases of dengue. The total number of cases has increased by 28% over the same period in 2021 (6,639 cases).
In the past week alone, the whole city recorded 943 dengue cases, an increase of 156 cases (20%) compared to the average of 4 weeks ago. In which, the number of cases increased, mainly inpatient hospitalization. During the week, there was 1 more death due to dengue in Cu Chi district. Accumulated from the beginning of the year until now in Ho Chi Minh City, there have been 7 deaths from dengue fever.

From May 13 to 19, the whole city recorded 79 new dengue outbreaks, outbreaks appeared in 17/22 districts and Thu Duc city. Many wards and communes with higher number of cases compared to the average of 4 weeks ago are Tan Thoi Hiep and Thanh Xuan wards (District 12); Phu Thanh and Son Ky wards (Tan Phu); Xuan Thoi Thuong commune (Hoc Mon).
Efforts to implement control measures by the health sector have reduced the increase of dengue fever in some districts compared to the average number of cases 4 weeks ago including: District 1, District 3, District 4, District 5, District 8, District 10, District 11, Phu Nhuan.
Dengue is transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person through an intermediate host, a mosquito. This is a species of mosquito that lives in a clean water environment, the rainy season is especially favorable conditions for the reproduction and development of mosquitoes that transmit dengue. Up to now, the disease still has no preventive vaccine and specific treatment, posing many dangers to public health.
However, dengue can be effectively prevented by measures to kill mosquitoes, not to be bitten by mosquitoes. To avoid the risk of dengue, the health sector recommends that each citizen actively protect themselves with simple measures such as sleeping under a mosquito net, increasing the killing of mosquitoes and larvae, cleaning and sanitizing the living place and working, discarding, or overturning unused containers of clean water.
