Head of Cardiology Department cheats insurance money
Quang NamNguyen Tan Ba, Head of Cardiology Department, made 19 false records for Quang Nam Central General Hospital to receive health insurance money.
On April 15, Mr. Ba (50 years old) was sentenced to 2 years in suspended prison by the People’s Court of Quang Nam province for the crime health insurance fraud, under article 215 of the Penal Code.
On the same charge, two nurses from the Department of Cardiology, defendants Nguyen Van Son (31 years old) and Luong Thanh Trung (36 years old) each had a suspended year.

The judgment determined, from 2017 to 2019, the patient went to the Department of Cardiology to examine, diagnose and treat coronary artery disease. In which, many patients are mild enough not to need stenting intervention, so they are prescribed drug treatment.
Taking advantage of the patient’s records, Ba directed Trung and Son and then made up 19 false medical records of patients with stent placement so that the hospital could enjoy health insurance with an amount of nearly 830 million VND.
The incident was discovered by the authorities, Quang Nam Central General Hospital has recovered the amount for the Social Insurance of Quang Nam province.
