Iran urgently investigates the house collapse in the city of Abadan

Service house collapse in Iran leaving at least 11 people dead, dozens more trapped.

Ten main people involved in this incident have been arrested for investigation, including the Mayor and former Mayor of Abadan, a number of government officials and construction supervisors.

The 10-story building partially collapsed on May 23, trapping dozens of people under the rubble. This building is a residential-commercial complex named Metropol in the Amir Kabir neighborhood of Abadan, near the border with Iraq. This is a busy street with many commercial buildings, offices and medical facilities.

Iranian authorities warned that other parts of the building were also at risk of collapsing, and urged people not to gather near these areas.

Iran’s National Emergency Service spokesman Mojtaba Khaledi estimated that around 50 people may still be trapped in the rubble.

Earlier, on May 23, Iran Central Television reported that the rescue force was trying to find and rescue 80 people trapped in the river. collapsed building in the city of Abadan, the capital of Khuzestan province, in the south of the country. This 10-storey building is under construction

A helicopter, 7 ambulances were present at the scene of the incident building collapsewhile rescue groups from many other cities have been mobilized to assist.

According to initial statistics, the incident left 6 people dead and 21 injured. Video recorded at the scene of the collapse showed smoke and dust blanketing the surrounding area after the building collapsed, rescue workers and locals carrying stretchers running to get victims out of the scene. The floor of the rest of the building sagged.

Mehdi Valipour, head of rescue and emergency operations for the Iranian Red Crescent, said 32 people were pulled out of the rubble.

“About 40% of the building is destroyed, the rest is at risk of total collapse,” Mayor Ehsan Abbaspour said, ordering the evacuation of residents living in a neighboring building.

Authorities in Khuzestan province have ordered an investigation into the collapse.
