MIWE Report 2021: A strong and resilient Southeast Asian businesswoman

Mastercard’s 5th Index of Women Entrepreneurs (MIWE) has assessed developments in the global entrepreneurship landscape among women from 65 economies and 82.4% of the female workforce worldwide. within the last 2 years.

The report shows that, while the COVID-19 pandemic has had varying degrees of impact on women entrepreneurs globally, particularly in developing economies, women are still able to Show persistence to be able to succeed in business.

According to the Global Ranking of the MIWE Report 2021, many economies in the Asia-Pacific region have entered the group of the best places in the world for women entrepreneurs. In particular, New Zealand, Australia are highly rated in all 3 MIWE Indicators: women’s progress outcomes, intellectual property and financial access.

The MIWE 2021 report also shows the trend of encouraging entrepreneurship for women from economies in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Women in these economies are reported to be highly engaged in entrepreneurship, sometimes on par with men, although they still face numerous challenges.
